The Building the Team course is designed to equip existing and upcoming managers with the competencies to get desired results from subordinates.
Learn To:
- Follow a systematic process for training employees on the job. Plan for delegating work assignments to employees.
- Analyse an employee’s performance, plan and conduct an appraisal meeting and develop strategies for responding to difficult appraisal situations
- Identify effective counselling behaviours and explain three levels of disciplinary action.
What you will cover
Training, Coaching & Delegating
Ability to develop people. Includes the following skills: selecting the right people, reaching agreement on plans for action, keeping a balance between input and output for action, transferring responsibility to the employee, giving feedback effectively, providing appropriate rewards.
Appraising People & Performance
Ability to carry out a constructive performance appraisal involving joint evaluation of past performance, agreement on future expectations and development of a plan to see that these expectations are met. Also, the ability to give effective feedback on an on-going basis.
Disciplining & Counselling
Ability to provide counseling and discipline in a positive manner, to restore the employee’s performance to within the accepted standards or norms without loss of face (respect, trust) on anyone’s part, to get the employee to accept responsibility for correcting the deviation within agreed-upon time frame, and to reinforce the employee for improved performance (or take the appropriate action if no improvement occurs).
